GSI Tool Library

Growing Greener Communities is proud to announce a new resource available to residents in the Darby and Cobbs Creek Watersheds! On January 5, 2026 we will open the GGC Tool Library, where you can borrow shovels, rakes, and other gardening supplies needed to DIY your home’s green stormwater infrastructure.

You can borrow any amount of tools for two weeks before you are required to return them or renew your loan. Each time you borrow tools, GGC asks for a borrower’s deposit of $25, which will be refunded when the tools are returned on time and in the same condition they were borrowed in.

If you are interested in borrowing from the GGC Tool Library, be sure to fill out the Tool Library Agreement Form and email it to growinggreenercommunities@gmail.com with the subject line [Lastname] Tool Library Request. GGC accepts borrower's deposits in person upon pickup, which can be paid in cash or a check made out to the Pennsylvania Resources Council. The GGC Tool Library is hosted by PRC and can be visited at 1521 North Providence Road, Media, PA.

If you’re looking to DIY your home’s GSI but don’t know where to start, be sure to check out the Take Action tab for advice on how to install rain gardens, downspout planters, and more!

FAQ

What tools can I borrow?

To see what tools you can borrow, check out our Tools Catalogue! This document has our full inventory and is regularly updated with the availability of each tool.

What is the Borrower’s Deposit?

The Borrower’s Deposit is how we make sure tools are returned on time and in good condition. If a tool is returned late, GGC will keep the borrower’s deposit. You have until 5pm on the last day of your loan to return the tools.

Can I reserve tools in advance?

Yes! If you know you will need tools for a specific time period in the future, you can email us a request in advance and we will do our best to make sure the tools are available at that time. You may request reserved tools up to three months in advance.

How can I renew my tools?

Tools can be renewed for one extra week before they need to be returned. In order to renew your tools, email us with the subject line [Lastname] Tool Library Renewal. Please send any renewal requests at least one day before your initial lending time is over so we can keep the availability section of the Tools Catalogue updated and accurate.

What if I want to return my tools early?

That’s perfectly fine! You can set an early return date on the checkout form if you don’t plan on using them for a full week.

If you finish with your tools unexpectedly early, just email us with the subject line [Lastname] Tool Library Return [Date of Return]. Early returns are great because it means the tools become available for the next person. Please email us at least one day before your early return date, so we can make sure someone is available to receive the tools and return your Borrower’s Deposit.

What if I don’t return my tools at all/return broken tools?

GGC reserves the right to use appropriate steps to retrieve missing tools, including the use of a collection agency and/or legal action. If tools are returned damaged, beyond reasonable wear and tear, GGC reserves the right to charge you for replacing the tool.
